If you love horseback riding, there are many places near Stowe that offer horseback riding, tours and lessons for beginners to experienced riders. Take advantage of the private forest and trails that are open to the public on horseback at the following locations

Enjoy Vermont at your own pace on a guided horseback ride through the 225 acres of private forest and countryside that house this historic country inn and award-winning restaurant. Guided tours are offered from May through mid-November from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tours last approximately 50 minutes and the pricing is $30.00 per person if you're a guest at the resort and $35 per person otherwise. Peterson Brook Farm, 802-253-9052
This private farm built in 1840 on 45 acres provides a panoramic view of the mountains as a perfect backdrop for the one-hour horseback riding guided tour through peaceful, majestic trails. The farm has been in operation since 1992, accommodates beginners to advance horseback riders and is located just 5 miles from Stowe Village. Open May to October, daily, 10AM to 3PM. Enjoy old-fashioned horse drawn carriage and sleigh rides through the 2,700 acres of this European mountain resort. Carriage and sleigh rides are offered from early December through April for $5.00 per person and last approximately 25 minutes. After your sleigh ride, be sure to experience some authentic Australian cuisine and fresh baked goods at one of their three unique restaurants sure to heighten all five senses.

Experience the gentle nature of Icelandic horses on a daylong trip between inns, with point to point lodging accommodations provided. Located approximately one hour north of Rutland and one hour south of Burlington, the inn has been in operation for over 20 years. Just above the village of Johnson, lies this farm of hidden trails yearning to be explored on horseback. Located about 30 minutes from Stowe, they offer a variety of rides all year long. Take a 1 ½ hour jaunt or a 3 hour picnic ride or enjoy a full day of riding with lunch. This is a great activity for the family as they can accommodate children ages 12 and up and offer pony rides as well.
